CROWDED TEETH

WHAT IS CROWDING?

Dental crowding, also known as crowded teeth or overcrowding is a type of malocclusion. When there isn’t enough space in your jaw to fit all your teeth, they tend to overlap each other leading to crowding. Your teeth may also twist over each other, push forwards or backwards due to lack of space and not be present in an aligned way. Crowded teeth may be present in people of all ages from children to adults, and seen even in older individuals.

WHAT DO CROWDED TEETH LOOK LIKE?

Your teeth look “crooked” when there is crowding in your jaws. Teeth may be overlapped, rotated, twisted, angled, or pushed when they are crowded, misaligned or crooked. This may be present in the upper or lower jaw, or both. Crowded teeth are most commonly seen in the lower front region.

WHAT CAUSES CROWDED TEETH?

The most common cause of crowded teeth is a size discrepancy, i.e. lack of sufficient space in the jaws due to either smaller jaws or larger size of teeth. This is generally dictated by genetics. If a baby tooth is extracted or exfoliated before its due time, the permanent teeth may erupt in a crowded fashion. Another cause for crowded teeth can be presence of harmful habits like thumb sucking, tongue thrusting, etc.

WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF CROWDING?

The various types of crowding according to severity are:
● Mild crowding
● Moderate crowding
● Severe crowding

What kinds of problems can crowded teeth cause?

Not only crowded teeth impart an unsightly appearance to your face but also cause many practical problems. Crowded teeth can be difficult to clean as your toothbrush and floss do not reach all areas of your teeth. This causes plaque accumulation and calculus deposition leading
to gum diseases. There may be speech difficulties as a result of crowded teeth too.

WHAT ARE MY TREATMENT OPTIONS FOR
CORRECTING CROWDED TEETH?

The best way to correct crowded or crooked teeth is orthodontic treatment. But orthodontic treatment using braces and wires can be cumbersome. In such cases, clear aligners offer the perfect solution for correcting crowded teeth.
K Clear aligners enable orthodontic teeth movement with the help of clear tray like appliances, that snugly fit your teeth and have orthodontic forces incorporated into them to correct your crowded teeth. They are removable, transparent, plastic aligners that need to be switched out every two weeks, as the orthodontist slowly moves your teeth into a better alignment. Apart from being invisible, they are also comfortable as they have no wires poking around. They are removable so can be conveniently removed while eating, and brushing. So you can now enjoy your meal without your braces holding you back. It is easier to keep your teeth clean with clear aligners as these are removable. Various studies have also shown great improvement in gum health with clear aligner treatment.
Regardless of whichever treatment option you choose, it is very to maintain proper oral hygiene. Throughout the treatment process, religiously brushing and flossing twice daily is extremely essential.

So do not let your doubts cage you (like braces) from smiling wide, instead get K clear aligner treatment and smile fearlessly!
